WEATHER ST MAARTEN - Just The Way You Like It...

Imagine Just One Season...365 Days of Pure Sunshine...

IS IT GOING TO RAIN TODAY? That's probably the most common question from visitors to St Maarten. My response is always preceded with a smile.

I smile because there's no real answer to that question. First of all, St Maarten is so small, most times a tropical depression can pass right outside the Island and we may not get a single drop of rain. The average temperature is around 84 degrees for the year.

As far as I am concerned, there's just one season here. I like to refer to is as three hundred and sixty five days of summer.

WEATHER ST MAARTEN - A Few Tips...

Tropical weather is hard to deal with if you're not accustomed to it. You'll need to make sure that you walk with lots of sun block if you burn quickly.

In any event, you want to make sure that you're protected from the sun. It's always a good idea to walk with a "parasol" - That's the spanish word meaning "for the sun". ooops...Sorry guys, It's just an "umbrella". The collapsible type that fits in your purse is ideal for travelling.

Having only one season attracts visitors from around the world. You can't beat that at all. If you asked us locals about the weather though, you'll probably get varying answers. It can go from a passing downpour to blistering sunlight in just minutes.

Showers seldom last for more than fifteen minutes, then before you know it, the sky is blue again. Weather is rarely synonymous with extended periods of rain.

In the summer months of the year the sun sets around seven pm while in the winter months outside is dark by five thirty pm. We generally get some rains in the months of June and July. But don't let that discourage your efforts to visit the pearl of the Caribbean. Your only task is to have fun when you get here.

ST MAARTEN'S HURRICANE SEASON...

WEATHER ST MAARTEN - HURRICANE SEASON...June until End of November.

If you're planning your trip during this time, you'll be happy to learn that you can cash in on some BIG SAVINGS. Every thing seem to be on special. I've met hundreds of folk who have chosen to travel at this time of the year only. (bargain hunters like myself.) shhhhh.

We've been blessed not to have had a major hurricane for quite some time. In fact we haven't seen one since November of 1999. So don't be intimidated by such events. In the event of a hurricane, unlike a tornado you'll have ample opportunity to fly out or make use of one of the many hurricane shelters provided for your use here on the island.

UPDATE: St Maarten escaped the full fury of hurricane Omar on 8th-9th October 2008. During its passage, Omar was classified as catagory 3 status. The system passed to the west of the Island causing damage to power lines and trees. All utilities were back to normal working condition within 72 hrs.
