The premier vacation destination for the World...
Indians were the first inhabitants these islands, and then in 1492, Christopher Columbus began his explorations of the islands. He was the first European to venture into the area.
After landing in the Bahamas, Columbus named these islands the Indies, because he thought he had finally reached Asia (and the East Indies).
Numerous explorers followed in his path, then settlers arrived from the Americas and Europe. Included in that mix were religious outcasts, slaves from Africa, and a small army of infamous pirates.
Great military powers fought for control of the islands, and finally, a blended mix of African and European cultures and languages transformed this large group of islands, its people and culture into one of the premier tourist destinations on the planet.
Although the region has been called the West Indies for much of its history since the end of World War 2 the area has been commonly referred to as "The Caribbean".

The Caribbean is a vast area with numerous islands in it, however "the pearl of the Caribbean" in our opinion is our island of St Maartens, which is also known as St Martins or St Martins.
St Maartens is a Caribbean island which manages to maintain a delightful mix of island authenticity intermixed with being a premier Caribbean tourist destination, so... come visit us on St Maartens.
