Anguilla Ferry

Besides the activities and attractions that St Maarten has to offer, the opportunity for visitors to venture out to the surrounding islands is exciting. The other Islands are Saba, Statia, St Barts, St Kitts and nevis. The nearest of the lot is the Island of Anguilla which is still a British dependancy and carries a British Passport.

The number of travellers going to the Island on a daily basis is astounding. Even for visitors on St Maarten, the numbers increase from year to year.

Getting to the Island is easy either by air or sea. The brunt of travellers to Anguilla go by ferry. If your final destination is Anguilla, you may want to save yourself the time and/or harrasment by using one of the hand full of chartered water taxis that tender you from the Princess Juliana Airport on the Dutch side.

They line the Lagoon's waterway from the airport to the Simpson's bay bridge. The prices of these smaller boats are generally more expensive but makes for a relatively smoother transition from St Maarten to Anguilla.

On the other hand, if you dont mind the wait or the rush, you may want to consider the regularly scheduled Anguilla lines that departs from the town of Marigot on the French side of the Island. The ride form Princess Juliana airport is about 20 minutes drive in good traffic through either the much talked about lowlands or through the Cole Bay neighborhood.

Anguilla Ferry - Departure From Marigot...

Once at the terminal in Marigot you need to check in with immigration, buy your tax and proceed to the waiting area for boarding. The tax as of this writing was $5 and the fare which will be collected on board was $15. The round trip should run you around $40 per head. Prices will vary according to taxes and price changes. Always bring along your passport or you will be dinied boarding.

While onboard you'll be expected to fill a landing card for submission on arrival in Anguilla. On arrival you'll need to clear customs and Immigration which is usually an easy process especially if you're just there for the day.

Anguilla Ferry - Frequency and times...

The Ferries run regular intervals of about 30 to 45 minutes with a travelling time of between 15 to 20 minutes to and From Anguilla respectively. They are opperated by independent opperators who are under the cooordination of the Anguilla government.

The Ferries are pretty small and have no automobile deck but are nice and enclosed protecting you from the elements.
